Herbert Von Thaden and Donald Lewis Jordan first joined forces during World War II when Jordan's company, which manufactured plywood parts for the military, subcontracted Thaden's wood and plastic laminate company to produce aircraft parts. After the war, they founded the Thaden-Jordan Furniture Corporation, which lasted from 1946 until 1952. Although originally dedicated to manufacturing wood, plastic, and metal furniture, the company eventually focused on plywood pieces using the technology and experience Thaden and Jordan had developed from the wartime industry. Thaden, the sole designer in the company, created the chair offered here, which is reminiscent of an airplane wing both in its sculptural shape and in its method of construction featuring slot-in connectors found in aircraft. Only a limited number of these chairs were ever made, as they were never put into regular production.
