Exceptional ceramic vessel with expressive handles in the form of dragons

This vessel was made of ceramic with a green-brown glaze and is a typical piece from the 12th/13th century Cambodia. The bulbous body is carried by three little legs and has a high groove ornate wall. On the shoulder a sweeping mouth edge can be found. The latter is flanked by two handles in the form of plastic dragon. These decorative and sculptural elaborate handles as well as applications in fable or animal shape are common characteristics of Khmer ceramics, whose main production facilities centers were located in Cambodia and Northern Thailand.



The ceramic vessel is in an overall good condition with slight signs of wear consistent with age. The height measures 47 cm and the diameter is ca. 23 cm.
