Central Asia, Uzbekistan, Northern Bactria. c.300 - 200 BC. A pair of gilt silver rhytons, each with the forepart of a wolf. The conical cup part of the rhytons have decorated bead-like bands as do the wolves. The cup tops are lightly flared, one showing finer work than the other. The wolves' mouths are open. H: 10cm diagonally from top of cup to wolves' paws. See A. Belinitsky, Central Asia, pl.32, 35 - 36. These items appear to be an attempt to restore Scythian workmanship, an attempt which falls short of that goal. $1000/2
