Cecilia Garcia Amaro (1953- ) was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. She began her artistic studies in the field of interior design at the Superior Institute of Art and Culture. In most of her visual art, she is self taught. She moved to California in 1980, and began exhibiting with artist collectives. Her work was eventually featured in shows at the Museum Amparo, the Art Center in Norfolk Virginia, the Mexican Embassy in Los Angeles, California, and the Mexican Embassy San Diego. Amaro's inspiration comes from her native land of Mexico. This can be seen in her expressive lines and abstraction. Her work is often compared to Mexican master artists such as Orozco, Rivera, and Tamayo. Today she Amaro is one of Mexico s leading contemporary artists, and her art can be found in many public and private collections. *
