British born actor (1887–1973), Holland starred in upwards of 30 films and was known as ‘The Man of a Thousand Faces’ due to his skill with character make-up. He eventually left acting in favor of being a make-up artist to the stars, and was the first head of the make-up department at MGM. Captivating vintage hand-tinted, linen-finish 11 x 14 portrait photo of Holland posing as Jesus Christ, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To:–Louis Bennett, With all good wishes, Sincerely, Cecil Holland.” In very good condition, with scattered creasing, paper loss to upper left edge and a few corners, light foxing and mild soiling to top edge.
