Irish poet (1904–1972) who was the British Poet Laureate from 1968 until his death. Handwritten poem by Cecil Day-Lewis entitled "Where are the War Poets?," penned on an off-white 8 x 10 sheet, signed and dated below, "C. Day-Lewis, 1940." In full: "They who in folly or mere greed / Enslaved religion, markets, laws, / Borrow our language now and bid / Us to speak up in freedom's cause. / It is the logic of our times, / No subject for immortal verse— / That we who liv'd by honest dreams / Defend the bad against the worse." In fine condition.
