Lot is a collection of documents from the famous Cayot Consolidated Quartz Mine, owned by Francis Cayot. Includes: Francis Cayot business card from the Union Hotel stage house and livery stable in La Porte, Plumas County, Cal.; Proof of Labor for Josef Cayot, dated 1917, listing improvements made to the mine and paid for by Mrs. C.H. Cayot. Notarized by James Jones, embossed seal. Folds.; Mercantile list of food and wares sold to Frank Cayot by John Williams; Deed and Bond and Agreement and Letter of Instruction from Frank Cayot and Augustus M. Cayot to the Bank of California (San Francisco) selling the mine to George S. Tyler for $14,000. Dated November 19, 1898. Original, banks copy, folds. The Cayot family was well known around La Porte. Frank Cayot was a famous businessman and masonic officer, who owned and operated the Hotel de France (located next door to the Bank of La Porte) and Union Hotel. He was also involved with the Ancient Order of United Workers Bald Mountain Lodge No. 140. The 80 acre Cayot Consolidated Quartz Mine was located 9 miles west of La Porte in Little Grass Valley and consisted of 5 mining claims in 1894. In 1898, the property was sold to parties in San Francisco who were going to develop the mine and build a mill. By 1918, Francis (Frank) Cayot owned the mine once again, with assays valuing at $12.
