<B>Cast Bronze Statue of Astronaut Thomas P. Stafford.</B></I> Cast bronze, 9" tall with marble base, Oklahoma City, OK, 1988. Astronaut Tom Stafford piloted Gemini VI, commanded Gemini IX, commander of Apollo 10, and commander of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project mission. In 1988, Aerospace America hosted conference for young astronauts, which included a reunion of the first American-Soviet space mission crews. Soviet cosmonauts Aleksey A. Leonov and Valeriy N. Kabasov, who flew the Soyuz space vehicle, joined Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Stafford a week-end long series of events held at the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma City. During the conference, a full-sized statue of Stafford was unveiled and dedicated. The statue, sculpted by Leonard McMurry, honored Stafford for his accomplishments in space. Offered here is a scale rendering of the original statue, depicting Stafford in his space suit, holding his helmet in one hand.
