Cased pair of flintlock dueling pistols. 7 7/8" brass barrels are 60 caliber and have decent bores. The top of the barrels are line engraved and marked "London". The plain locks are marked W Ketland & Co. in three lines. All fittings are polished brass and the wood stocks are pin-fastened and each has some very old, tightly repaired cracks. The walnut case is 17" x 9 1/2" x 2 3/4" and is lined with a rust colored velvet. There are two covered compartments-one contains two lead balls and the key which has a brass tag which reads " J. Davis 1861". The wood triangular cover has split into two pieces; the second contains some old patches. The accessories include a small metal powder flask (leather colored), a wood ramrod/cleaning rod, an unmarked metal oil flask and a round ball mold marked "E Uhland". The bottom of the case is carved in block letters " Jefferson Davis 1861"-take it with a grain of salt-no, take it with ten grains of salt. This is an attractive cased set of flintlock pistols.
