Cased engraved and inscribed Colt Model 1862 Police percussion revolver, .36 cal., 4-1/2” barrel, silver finish, inscribed ivory grips, #31032 IP. This cased deluxe set is in overall excellent condition showing approx. 60% silver finish on iron surfaces, a pleasing patina on brass backstrap and trigger guard, good bore, crisp action and markings; beautiful mellow ivory grips with finely accomplished period scrimshawed panels on both sides of the top areas of the grips, one side is an Irish harp with floral design and the other side is a spread eagle over coat of arms with the ribboned inscription “Post Nubila Phoebus”. The engraving on the gun is the scroll and vine style with wolf’s head on hammer. The case is in overall good to very good condition showing a brown interior, a Colt’s Patent iron mold, an eagle brass flask, an Eley Bros. cap tin, a combination nipple wrench/screw driver, a package of skin cartridges by Hazard and a key to the lock of the case. Unfortunately, the period inscription on the backstrap cannot be read however there are some remnants of the writing that ultimately may be able to be raised scientifically by an expert. Given the quality of this set, the Civil War era production and the Irish imagery, this may be a very important presentation arm. From the Richard Wolfe Estate. Est.: $3,500-$7,000.
