A) Manufactured circa 1868 to 1873, this revolver is one of approximately 8,000 Second Models manufactured. The Second Model has the flat sided brass frame with large oval side plate and chambered for the 22 Long cartridge. The barrel rib has the one line address, the rear sides and muzzle end side flats of the barrel are floral scroll and punch dot engraved and the cylinder is roll engraved with the Indian and settler motif. The matching serial number is on the frame under the grips, rear of the barrel and on the rear face of the cylinder. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened hammer and silver plated frame, and fitted with smooth varnished grips. With a period wooden case with purple velvet lining and two eleven round cartridge blocks.

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 20% original blue finish concentrated in the protected areas with the balance and the cylinder having a smooth mottled brownish gray patina. The frame retains 90% original silver plating with some thinning on the grip straps and high edge wear. There are several minor dings on the frame. The cylinder scene is visible. The hammer retains 50% faded original case colors. The grips are fine with 80% original varnish remaining. The right panel has been taken down slightly around the screw escutcheon and overall there are a few minor dents and dings. There is some play in the barrel hinge and the action is fine. The markings and engraving are clear. The case is very good with some minor dings and scratches on the exterior. The relined interior is excellent showing minimal contact wear.
- B) As "A" with patent dated marked on the bottom barrel flat, same engraving pattern on the barrel and additional floral scroll engraving on the frame with a decorative matte background.

Condition: Good as period replated. The barrel and cylinder have a smooth gray patina, with a small amount of minor pitting on the forward edge of the cylinder. The frame retains 95% replated silver with some mild thinning on the front strap and some edge wear. The grips are very good with some lower edge wear and a few minor dings and handling marks. There is a little play in the barrel hinge. The action is fine. The cylinder scene is visible, and the markings and the engraving are clear.
