Cased Pair of Scottish Flintlock Coat Pistols, by Wilkison, .68 cal., 7'' octagonal brown barrels marked ''Edinburgh'', lightly embellished case hardened lockplates and hammers, with shield and finial engraved blue triggerguards; checkered walnut fullstocks, with bird's beak upper border; silver escutcheons behind upper tangs marked ''Sursum'' (Latin for Lift Up) showing an armorer's fist holding an arrow, with the initials ''MBD''. Pistols exhibit exceptionally high quality workmanship with precision well-made clamp to top of cocks, frizzen springs with roller attachments, and nicely decorated throughout. Back end of brass-tipped bell-shaped ramrods sport jags for ball removal. Original case colored No. 5 marked bullet mold is retained, as is trade type Dixon flask. W. Peacock trade label is retained in lid of rosewood partition case with dusty sage green cotton velveteen lining. Extra flint and balls are present. Ca. 1790-1820. Condition to pistols is excellent showing just light knackering to exterior of stocks and very mellow toning to metal components. Box externally shows light scuffs and scratches; internally with minor fading and losses to material, and losses to lower right corner of dust check. Est.: $7,500-$10,000. (Antique)
