Cased Pair of John Manton & Son Box Lock Pocket Pistols A) Engraved Manton & Son Percussion Pocket P
Produced without sights, with "MANTON & SON/ LONDON" on the top barrel flat and crossed scepter proofs on the underside of the barrel and breech. This flintlock pistol is 6 inches in overall length. Boxlock action, with a floral burst pattern on the trigger guard, scales on the hammer and fine scroll designs on the sides and tang. Checkered bag shaped walnut grip, with a fancy script "L" on a diamond shaped silver inscription panel on the back. With a green felt lined hardwood case, bearing the label "John Manton, Son & Co./ GUN MAKERS TO THE ROYAL FAMILY/ and by Appointment/ To His Royal Highness, Prince Albert,/ No 6, Dover Street, London/ Patentees of the newly Invented Self-priming Copper Cap Gun, &C,& C,& C." on the inside of the lid, a round brass inscription panel on top, and the following accessories: a leather covered, bay-shaped, powder flask with German silver top, single cavity steel bullet mold, barrel/ nipple wrench, lacquered steel percussion cap tin with caps, carved ivory cap box, carved ivory brush, and steel ramrod/cleaning rod.

Condition: Fine, with 60% of the original casehardened finish, with vivid colors in the protected areas, and 20% of the original blue, strongest on the trigger guard, showing a mixed brown and gray patina overall. The grips are very fine, with sharp checkering and some finish loss. Mechanically excellent. Case is very good with an escutcheon absent from the keyhole, mild interior staining and moderate handling wear.

Condition: Fine, with 70% of the original casehardened finish, strongest on the hammer, left side of the frame and around the trigger guard, and 20% of the original blue, showing a brown and gray patina with mild pressure dents and a small amount of pitting. Grips are very fine, with strong grain, sharp checkering, and an attractive dark antique color on the inscription panel. Mechanically excellent.
