Cased Pair of Engraved Williams & Powell Over/Under Percussion Pistols -A) Engraved Williams & Powell Percussion Pistol
The frame, hammers, butt cap and trigger guard are engraved with floral scroll designs with a fish head motif on the hammer heads. The top of the barrel is marked "WILLIAMS& POWELL LIVERPOOL" and the sides of the lower barrel is marked with British proof marks. Fixed blade and notch rear sights, iron button head swivel ramrod and 3 1/2 inch belt hook mounted on the left side of the frame. The pistol has been copper plated, then silver plated, then gold plated, (a process often used when guns would be taken to sea, the copper was more resistant to corrosion from the salt air). Fitted with a finely checkered one-piece walnut grip with a cap compartment in the butt. The pistols come in a wooden case with a brass plaque inset on the lid inscribed "Eliza" and green felt lining. In the case is a hinged lid oval cap tin marked "PATENT" on the bottom and decorated with relief floral designs.

Fine as period replated. The barrel and belt hook show generous amounts of silver finish. 90% of the gold finish remains on the hammers and butt cap, (thinning), while silver finish remains on the remaining metal surfaces. The grip is very fine with a few minor dings and bruises in the otherwise sharp checkering. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is fine. The relined case is good with a warped lid, some minor dings, scratches and wear on the exterior, and wear and stains on the lining. The cap tin has a dark pitted patina.
