A) Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1851 Navy
This pair of Model 1851 revolvers were manufactured in 1851. The top barrel flat has the standard one line New York address. The left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS/PATENT". The cylinder is rolled engraved with the Texas Naval Battle scene and marked "COLTS PATENT" next to the matching serial number. The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, cylinder, loading lever, wedge, cylinder pin and back strap. Fitted with a smooth varnished walnut grip. The pair come in a 20th Century custom wooden case with red lining with seven compartments. In the case are two partially full Eley Bros cap tins, a nipple wrench/screwdriver, a two cavity iron bullet mold marked "COLTS/PATENT" on the sprue cutter and "36 CAL" on one arm and a powder flask.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 36 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened/silver
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 3466
Condition:
Good. The metal surfaces have a mottled dark gray patina with some minor pitting on the barrel. Traces of the original age darkened silver remains on the trigger guard and back strap, with an aged patina on the brass. The grip is good with lower edge wear, a small chip on each toe and some scattered minor dents and dings. The action needs work, the cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked. The markings are clear. The case is good with some finish loss and edge wear on the lid, the fabric on the bottom is partially absent and the remaining fabric is loose and tattered. There is a small chip on the lower front. The lining is badly faded and shows some contact wear and stains. The sprue cutter stop on the bullet mold is absent, otherwise the accessories are all good.
B) Manufacturer: Colt Model: 1851 Navy
Described in "A". The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, back strap, cylinder with the partial matching number "746" on the cylinder pin. The loading lever, wedge and trigger guard are numbered "2046", (possibly a factory error).

Good as refinished and assembled (see above). The metal surfaces have a smooth dark patina. The brass has an attractive aged patina. The action is fine.
