Wyllys Lyman, 5th Infantry, a hero of the Red River War of 1874-5, donned his 1872 regulation dress coat for a visit to the photographer shortly after that taxing campaign. Lyman's Model 1872 chasseur-pattern forage cap, with its gold embroidered bugle badge and silver regimental number, sits on a table." Handwritten note included reads: Lyman, Wyllys, Vt. 1LT-ADJ 10 VT. 15 Aug '62 - Maj. 24 Feb. 65. Hon Must Out 28 June '65. Capt 40 INF 28 July '66. Tr to 25 INF 20 April '69.
