This is an example of a Merwin & Bray Deringer believed to have been manufactured by Bacon of Norwich, Connecticut, circa 1859 to 1866. Merwin & Bray was a firearm and sporting goods dealer. Marked "MERWIN & BRAY/ NEW YORK" on the top barrel flat. The barrel pivots for reloading. Once silver plated brass frame with smooth spur trigger and serrated hammer. Smooth varnished grips with square butt. Matching serial number on frame and both grips. Complete with wooden case with a cartridge block. The interior is lined in dark green velvet.

Fair. The barrel and hammer have a smooth brown patina, with some fine pin prick pitting on the barrel. The brass has a fine patina. The grips are excellent with the left panel slightly warped at the butt and having a couple hairline cracks, along with some minor scratches overall. The case is very good with a couple minor cracks on lid, some minor handling marks and some minor wear to the lining.
