A) Manufactured circa 1850s to 1860s. These pepperbox pistols feature extensive floral scroll engraving on the frame, trigger guard, nipple shield and hammer, and a leaf design on the muzzle ends of the barrels. The right side of the frame is also marked "IMPROVED / REVOLVING PISTOL" and the left side "J. LANG / 7 HAYMARKET LONDON" in a ribbon. The breech end of each chamber is marked 1 through 5 and the flutes have alternating crown over "V" and "GP" proofmarks. Bright steel barrels, with casehardened finish on the remaining surfaces. Sliding hammer safety and fitted with a one-piece checkered walnut grip with floral scroll engraved beveled butt cap with cap compartment. The compartment lid is engraved with a shell design. There is a silver initial rectangle on the back of the grip with a crown engraved on it. Complete in an oak case with round brass plaque inset in the lid engraved with a crown over "R de B", maroon felt lining, five compartments, Remington Arms Company cap tin, powder flask, oiler, key and powder measurer.
BBL: 3 7/8 inch fluted
Stock:
Gauge: 50 percussion
Finish: bright/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: nsn
Condition: Very good. The barrel cluster remains bright with signs of polishing and a small amount of minor pitting. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina with a light coat of dried oil in areas. The grip is good with a small chip present on the upper left side, a few minor dents and dings, some minor wear on the lower checkered area, with overall crisp checkering. The engraving and markings are crisp and clear. The action needs work as it does not rotate barrels. The case is very good with a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior and some contact wear and fraying of edges of the lining. The accessories are all good or better with some minor spotting on the flask.

B) As "A", but with a smooth, ill-fitting butt cap.
