A) Manufacturer: Lang J Model: Percussion
Manufactured circa 1850s to 1860s. These Officer's pistols feature floral scroll engraving on the frame, trigger guard, lock and hammer, and a leaf design on the muzzle end of the barrel and bordering the left side frame and a scallop border on the lock. The top barrel flat is marked "LANG 7 HAY MARKET LONDON". The lower left barrel flat is stamped with a "crown/GP" and "crown/V" proof marks and the lower left side of the frame is marked with a "crown/V" proof mark. Iron swivel ram rod with floral engraved button muzzle end, solid under rib, clean out screw on the bolster and hammer safety mounted on the lock. Bead front and fixed notch rear sights. The barrel is brown Damascus pattern, niter blue 2 7/8 inch belt hook (mounted on the left side of the frame) and trigger, and the remaining parts are casehardened. Fitted with a straight grain checkered walnut grip with silver initial oval and iron buttcap with compartment containing an extra niter blue nipple. The compartment lid is engraved with a floral design. The pair are complete in a walnut case with a inset brass disk on the lid and green lining with a Langs Gun and Pistol Manufacturing label affixed to the inside of the lid. The case has seven compartments with a lid with ivory pulls on two corners. In the case is a wood and brass cleaning rod, a small pewter oiler, an ebony handled screwdriver and a Dixon & Sons powder flask.

Excellent. The barrel retains 95% original brown finish with areas of smooth gray patina and almost of the the Damascus pattern remaining. The trigger guard has a smooth gray patina with strong traces of darkened case colors in the protected areas and 95% original bright case colors remain on the remaining parts. The belt hook and trigger retain almost all of the original bright niter blue finish with some mild flaking, light scratches and a series of small scraps on the belt hook. The grip is also excellent with some light dings and handling marks. The checkering is very crisp. The engraving and markings are crisp. The action is excellent. The case is excellent with a moderate crack across the bottom and a few minor pressure dents on the exterior and fading, and some heavy contact wear from the trigger guards. A notch has been cut into one of the compartment walls to accommodate the screwdriver. The accessories are all very fine.

The trigger guard has a smooth gray patina with strong darkened original case colors in the protected areas. The remaining casehardened parts retain 95% original bright case colors. 95% original niter blue finish remains on the trigger and belt hook with some minor scratches, edge wear and pin prick type pitting on the belt hook. The grip is also excellent with a few mild pressure dents and handling marks. The checkering is crisp. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is excellent. An extremely nice matched pair of English Officers pistols.
