This is an example of a Colt Single Action Army Flattop Target Model revolver manufactured in 1894. The revolver has the distinctive flat frame top and sides with dovetail mounted rear sight. The block mounted front sight is adjustable and has a removable brass blade. The frame is the block powder pattern with cylinder pin screw. The revolver has a full blue finish and is fitted with two-piece black hard rubber grips with the Eagle and Shield motif and the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top of each grip. The barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON" in one line. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the caliber designation "45" in front of the receiver, "15" behind the ejector housing stud and and London "Crown/GP" and "Crown/V" proof and inspection marks. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-line/three-date patent markings. The caliber designation "45E" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard and "45B" is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The assembly number "23" is stamped on the loading gate. London proof and view marks are stamped above each cylinder chamber. An "S" Colt inspection mark is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder and in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. The full serial number "156475" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and hammer. What appears to be the partial serial number "3212" is stamped on the side of the cylinder. The revolver is complete in a wooden case with round brass disk inset in the lid and red fabric lining with a "Colts Pt. firearms Mfg. Co./Hartford, Conn. U.S.A./Depot 14 Pall Mall/London" marked label on the inside of the lid. The case has 5 compartments (two with lids) and a 25 round bullet block.
