It is original and unaltered and complete with various accessories all contained in an excellent reproduction Borchardt style leather bound case. These 1893 Borchardt pistols were the true forerunner of the world famous and historic Luger pistol. The Borchardt pistol employed the unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by George Luger and was used throughout production of the Luger pistol from 1900 through 1942. The top of the chamber area is marked in three lines WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." with the top of the toggle mechanism carrying the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the barrel extension is marked; "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial proofs of a "Crown over B and U" proofs, with the left rear section of the barrel marked with the fully German commercial proofs that consists of the "Crown over B, U, and G" proofs over "172,28". It is fitted with the original checkered walnut grips along with the original varnished border around the checkered panel in the center section of each grip. This example includes the matching wooden shoulder stock, the original wood based magazine, one spare dummy magazine with the brass oiler on the bottom, a reproduction black leather holster with attaching straps that matches an original holster, a reproduction black leather shoulder strap, original cheekpiece numbered 456, screwdriver, takedown pin punches and the reproduction black leatherette carrying case that houses the pistol, stock and accessories. Consignor states 200 of the early produced Borchardt pistols were purchased by the Chilean Railroad.

Very fine with 80% of the original blue finish overall with clear sharp markings and proofs. The walnut grips are very good with nice distinct checkering on both sides, mixed with some minor light pressure dents and handling marks. The reproduction cheekpiece, stock assembly and dummy magazine are excellent showing only minor handling marks. The reproduction case closely matches the original cases (which are extremely hard to locate) and is excellent and it nicely houses the pistol and all the accessories.
