A) This matching pair of shotguns has exquisite floral scroll engraving covering nearly all of the lock plates, receiver and trigger plate. The lock plates are also engraved "WILLIAM FORD" in a banner on both sides. The lower tang/trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware also have a large amount of floral scroll engraving. The breech end of the barrels are engraved with a decorative border, the rear portion of the rib is engraved with floral scroll, the left barrel is engraved "WILLIAM FORD," and the right barrel is engraved "15, St MARY'S ROW, BIRMINGHAM.". The forearm hardware, break lever and rear of the barrel all have a gold inlaid "1". The barrels have two white bead sights, and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The flats show that the barrels are nitro proofed with 1 ounce of shot. The receiver has a hidden third bite, bushed firing pins and a tang mounted automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold. Mounted on a beautifully figured Turkish walnut splinter forearm and straight grip stock with good contrast between the light brown wood and black mineral lines, multi-point checkering and a checkered bare butt. Length of pull is 14 3/4 inches, drop at comb is 1 9/16 inches, drop at heel is 2 3/8 inches. With a leather bound, oak framed two gun takedown hardcase with William Ford retailer label, four snap caps, nickel plated oiler, a three piece cleaning rod and various cleaning rod tips. Bores measure .621 (right) and .621 (left), the wall thickness is .035 (right) and .035 (left), the bore constriction is .013 (right) (Mod) and .025 (left) (IM) and the cast off is 1/4 inch.

Very fine, the barrels retain 97% plus of the original blue finish with scattered scratches, dings and high edge wear. The trigger guard/lower tang is refinished with 98% of the blue finish remaining. The casehardened components retain 95% of the bright case colors with some high edge wear and some dulled areas. The wood is excellent with some scattered minor scratches and dings. Mechanically fine. The case is good with scattered scratches, scuffs, indentions and flaking.

B) As described in "A" with the rear of the barrel, the forearm hardware and break lever having a gold inlaid "2". Fits in the case with "A". The forearm hardware is curiously numbered "8990". 2 3/4 inch chambers. Bores measure .621 (right) and .621 (left), the wall thickness is .035 (right) and .035 (left), the bore constriction is .011 (right) (LM) and .016 (left) (M). Length of pull is 14 3/4 inches. Drop at the comb is 1 9/16 inches, drop at the heel is 2 1/4 inches, cast off is 1/2 inch.
