Cased Factory Relief Engraved Walther Model 9 Semi-Automatic Pistol Attributed to Adolf Hitler
This fine pistol features full coverage factory scroll-engraving in high relief with a lion's heads on each side of the slide. The engraving very closely resembles the engraving found on the Adolf Hitler PP shown on page 33 of Rankin's book "Walther Volume II Engraved, Presentation and Standard Models". This pistol, in Rankin's opinion, may have been engraved by the same person. The address is marked on the right side of the slide in a panel and the Walther banner and "Walther's Patent Mod. 9" are on the left side of the slide. The Walther banner is also found on the bottom of the magazine. The pistol was gold plated over the nickel finish. The pistol is fitted with smooth ivory grips with blue enamel medallions on each side with the caliber marked on one side and the Carl Walther logo on the other. The pistol is complete in a leatherette case with purple satin and velvet lining, an extra Walther marked magazine, an opened box of original, period German 6.35 ammunition and a plain sealed box marked "25". The pistol is accompanied by a typed, unsigned letter dated January 1, 2000 briefly explaining that an official of the United States State Department, with the cooperation of the U.S. and British governments, helped himself to a myriad of German treasures after the formal surrender of the German forces on May 8, 1945. The official was said to have access to Hitler's yacht, the Aviso Grille, moored at Runsted Kanal, Schleswig-Holstein, the medieval castle of Veldenstein, Goring's 200 acre estate and hunting lodge north of Berlin, and to the homes of Himmler, Speer, Borman and others. All artifacts were shipped to the U.S. under diplomatic immunity. The pistol is reported to have been in storage in the U.S. since 1946. There is also a signed letter of provenance from noted Walther author and expert James Rankin describing the pistol and its attribution to Adolf Hitler and it's engraving having been possibly done by the same engraver that engraved the Adolf Hitler Walther PP pistol. The letter also states that this pistol along with other firearms and pieces of memorabilia were purported removed from an area of Adolf Hitler's home at Obersalzberg.
