Cased Engraved Unmarked Blunderbuss Flintlock Pistol with Snap Bayonet and Accessories
This is an example of a brass barreled flintlock box lock style blunderbuss pistol that was manufactured circa 1780-1800, (origin probably English). The barrel and frame are one piece and the 60 bore barrel flared cannon muzzle opening measures 7/8". The iron spring loaded bayonet is mounted on the underside of the muzzle and secured in the front of the trigger guard and two ramrod pipes are mounted on the right side of the barrel, securing a wooden ramrod. The bayonet blade measures 4 3/4". The sides of the box lock action are engraved with a patriotic motif. Fitted with a smooth bag shaped one piece walnut grip with decorative silver wire inlays. Complete in a modified old wooden case with replaced green felt lining with five compartment, one with a wooden lid. The case contains a powder flask, iron bullet mold, wooden handled screwdriver, patches and about 30 round lead bullets.

Condition: Very good. The brass has an attractive aged patina. There are a few moderate dings on the barrel. The trigger guard, frizzen and bayonet have a gray patina with overall moderate pitting. The grip is also very good with almost all of the wire inlay remaining and scattered minor dings and dents. The engraving remains crisp. The action is excellent. The case is good as revarnished some time ago with a minor crack on the lid and bottom, and overall minor dings and scratches. The lining is good with some minor wear and stains. The accessories are all very good.
