Cased Engraved Pair of Le Page Percussion Target Pistols with Relief Carved Stocks and Accessories A
These are a fine pair of engraved French percussion pistols that feature floral scroll engraving on the lock, hammer, trigger guard, breech plug and barrel tang. The barrel is blue and the remaining parts were casehardened. The top barrel flat is marked "Fux P. Le Page Moxitxex a Paris" and the lock is marked "F.P. LEPAGE-MOUTIER-A-PARIS" The bottom flat directly ahead of the forend is marked "acier / fondu". Blade front sight and fixed notch rear sight mounted on the barrel tang, trigger guard with finger spur and decorative finial and mounted with a one piece half-stock with grooved grip, vine design carved forend and iron buttcap with simple vine and leaf engraving. Complete in a rosewood case with "L.G.D." inscribed initial shield on the lid, brown fitted velvet lining with an ebony mallet, iron bullet mold, screwdriver with ebony handle, powder flask, horn cap container and ebony ramrod.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 90% of the original bright blue finish with scattered minor flaking, some edge wear and some light spotting. The lock, trigger guard and buttcap have a smooth gray patina. The hammer spur has been repaired and refinished and has a smooth dark patina and blue finish on the back of the spur. The stock is very fine with exception of a hairline crack on top right wrist, a few minor dings and sharp carving and flat edges. The engraving and markings are crisp and clear. The action is very fine. The case is very good with a few minor age cracks in the lid, a crack running the width on the bottom and some discoloration and minor wear to the lining. The accessories are all fine, the mold has been cleaned bright.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 90% of the original bright blue finish with some thinning, edge wear and some minor spotting. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The stock is excellent with a few minor dings and crisp carving and flat edges. The markings and engraving are clear and crisp. The action is fine.
