Cased English Pepperbox Pistol, NVSN, .36 cal., 6-shot, 3'' fluted case-hardened barrels, lightly engraved heavy silver frame, hand-stamped initials ''EVS'' to left side panel, gargoyle face to butt, with finely checkered walnut grip panels. Birmingham proofs to each individual barrel flute. In mahogany partition case with dusty rose interior, cap tin, small nickel-plated brass container for extra nipples, iron key, and lovely case-hardened bullet mold/rammer. Condition is fine to near excellent with approx. 70% thinning and lightly toning case colors to barrel assembly with most of the losses to high edges, remaining quite vivid in flutes. Frame with minor wear to relatively soft silver and appears to have been cleaned, as it remains bright in all but the protected areas where the silver has toned dark. Iron trigger and triggerguard show traces of blue in protected areas. Case-hardened hammer retains approx. 50%-60% strong case colors with rope style engraving remaining crisp and vivid. Grips with minor flattening and possible re-chasing in some areas. Action remains crisp and revolves as designed, bore interiors with toning but remaining otherwise crisp. Interior of box with minor wear where it encounters metal surfaces of firearm; exterior with some cracks and shrinkage to lid. Keyhole escutcheon has gone missing over the years. Eight-pointed brass plate to lid with very light illegible inscription. (Key is not original to this case.) Est.: $2,800-$3,400. (Antique)
