Cased Dennis Kies Master Engraved Second Generation Colt Model 1860 Army Engraving Sampler Revolver with Factory Letter and Accessories

This revolver has four different styles of floral scroll engraving and is 1 of only 10 manufactured. There is "contemporary" on the muzzle end of the barrel, "Henshaw" on the trigger guard and butt, "Helfricht" on the barrel lug and frame, and "Nimschke" on the cylinder. The top of the back strap is engraved with the 150th Anniversary Rampant Colt logo and down the back strap is engraved "Colt Engraving Sampler" in script. The cylinder is not stamped with a serial number and does not have nipples installed. The hammer is not engraved. Fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip. The factory letter states that this is an engraving sampler, that it has high polish blue with casehardened frame, a scrimshawed one piece ivory grip, that it was engraved by Dennis Kies, that the hammer has the wolf's head design on each side, that it was shipped to "Unavailable" and that only 20 were manufactured with 10 of them being nickel and 10 being blue/casehardened. With a black hardwood 1 of 500 case and accessories, an accessory box and a Black Powder series box with Custom Shop label numbered to another gun. The consignor's notes indicate this was a show gun.

Excellent, 98% of the original high polish blue finish remains with a drag line on the cylinder and a few light handling marks. The casehardened components retain 90% plus of the original case colors with some areas of flaking/discoloration. The brass grip strap remains bright with the caliber marking faint and a few small casting errors. The replacement walnut grip is excellent. The case and accessories are all very good or better. The box is good.
