Cased Colt Model 1855  Root  Pocket Revolver with Accessories
Manufactured in 1856. The top barrel flat is marked "COLT'S PT. / 1855" followed by " ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARTFORD CT U.S.A." with the pointing finger and Maltese crosses. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Cabin and Indian Fight scene and marked "COLT'S PATENT / No 14659. All blue finish with casehardened hammer, loading lever and fire blue trigger, pin front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip. Matching serial number on the butt, barrel and cylinder. Complete in a wooden case with red velvet lining, eagle shield flask, "L" shaped screwdriver, approximately 14 round and conical lead bullets and two cavity bullet mold with the sprue marked "COLT'S / PATENT".

Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 85% of the bright original high polished blue finish with flaking and high edge wear on the barrel, the front section of the cylinder thinned to a smooth gray patina and high edge wear on the frame. The hammer retains most of the original bright case colors, the loading lever shows strong original bright case colors in protected areas with the balance a smooth dark patina and the protected sides of the trigger show much of the original bright fire blue finish. The grip is excellent with 95% original varnish remaining, showing some very minor wear on the lower edges and a few minor dings and nicks. The cylinder scene is completely visible and the markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The case is fine with some minor dings and scratches on the outside, show contact wear and soiling of the otherwise fine original lining and some fraying on the edges. The accessories are very fine with almost all of the original lacquer on the flask, almost all of the thinning bright blue finish on the screwdriver and 90%original blue on the excellent mold mixed with a smooth mottled grey patina.
