Manufactured in 1868. The top of the barrel flat has the one line "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S.AMERICA" marking, the mis-matched cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach holdup scene, "COLTS PATENT" and is numbered, "1071". The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT" and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked "31 CAL". Complete matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap, partial number "06767" on the wedge and "6767" on the arbor pin and the loading lever is un-numbered. The barrel and cylinder were blue, casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, and silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. Complete in a homemade brown velvet lined hardwood case with five compartments with a Colts Patent eagle powder flask, two chamber "COLT'S / PATENT" brass bullet mold and a partially full Remington UMC cap tin.
BBL: 5 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 31 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened/silver
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 306767
Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a dark mottled patina with some minor pitting on the barrel and cylinder. The trigger guard and backstrap have a pleasant aged patina with strong original silver plating in the protected area of the trigger guard bow. Much of the cylinder scene is visible and the markings are clear, (fading a bit on the barrel). The grips are good with 60% original varnish, a small chip on each toe and a few minor dents and dings. The hammer spring is a little weak, otherwise the action is fine. The case is good with two screws missing on one hinge and contact wear and soiling of the lining. The mold is good with several minor dents and dings and a mottled patina and the flask is very good.
