Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with Accessories
Manufactured in 1862. The top of the barrel flat has the one line "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S.AMERICA" marking, the cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach holdup scene, "COLTS PATENT" and the matching partial serial number, "18223". The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT" and the left trigger guard shoulder is marked with an "R". Complete matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap, partial number "8223" on the wedge and arbor pin and "18223" on the loading lever. Blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, and silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap. Complete in a brown velvet lined hardwood case with locking lid and five compartments with a powder flask, two chamber "COLT'S / PATENT" brass bullet mold, loose bullets, key and a tin of Eley Brothers percussion caps, (partially full).

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 50% original bright blue finish with loss due to irregular flaking with a smooth brown patina on the exposed areas. The cylinder retains 70% original thinning blue finish with fully visible scene. The frame, hammer and loading lever retain 85% of the bright vivid original case colors. The trigger guard and backstrap retain 60% original silver plating, turning dark with age in areas, and a pleasant aged patina on the exposed brass. The grip is excellent with 98% original varnish remaining showing some lower edge wear and a few minor dings and dents. The frame marking has been restamped, otherwise the markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The case is very good with a crack running the width of the lid and soiled lining with some contact wear. The flask and mold have an aged patina.
