Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with Accessories

Manufactured in 1856. The top barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW-YORK CITY" and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach holdup scene and is marked "COLTS PATENT" above the matching serial number. Complete matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap (very faint), partial number "5801" on the cylinder pin and loading lever, and the wedge is numbered "5500". Blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap. Fitted with a one-piece varnished walnut grip. Complete in a brown velvet lined hardwood case with locking lid and five compartments with a double face eagle powder flask, two chamber "COLT'S/PATENT" brass bullet mold, 4 loose bullets, key, L shaped nipple wrench/screwdriver and partially full unmarked cap tin.

Fine as partially refinished (cylinder). The barrel retains 75% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance, as well as some minor scuffs. The cylinder has been refinished and retains 25% blue finish and shows signs of having been heated up. The scene and markings are clear. The frame retains 50% original case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The loading lever has strong original faded case colors on the left side with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The back strap and trigger guard retain 90% original silver plating with scattered speckled flaking, some darkening with age and an aged patina on the exposed brass. The grip is also very fine with 99% original varnish remaining showing some very slight lower edge wear, and a few minor dings and handling marks. Unless noted above, the markings are clear. The action is fine. The case is good as relined with some paint speckles, scuffs and dings on the exterior and a loose hinge. The lining shows a tear on the bottom, as well as some contact wear and fraying on the edges.
