Cased Colt 1849 Pocket Model Revolver with Accessories
Colt 1849 Pocket Model revolver manufactured in 1857. The revolver has both a unique and controversial, five-inch, round barrel with five-shot cylinder roll-engraved with the Stage Holdup scene (experts have mixed views about the authenticity of round barrels). The barrel and cylinder are blued, the loading lever, frame and hammer are casehardened and the brass trigger guard and backstrap are silver-plated. The revolver has one-piece, varnished, walnut grips. The top barrel flat has the third style, two-line, address: "{ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY}". "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. The full serial number, "136560" is stamped on the barrel lug, frame, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap. The partial serial number, "6560" is stamped on the loading lever, and arbor pin. The wedge is stamped, "36560". All of the serial numbers match. The revolver is in a reproduction, mahogany, American style, case with five compartments lined with dark green velvet. The case is complete with: (1) two tins of percussion caps (one tin has a lid embossed: "ELEY BRO/LONDON" and a brown lacquer finish), (2) a un-opened packet of six Hazard's Combustible Cartridges, (3) a brass, double cavity bullet mold marked: "COLT'S/PATENT" in two lines across the top and (4) a eagle and shield powder flask with fixed charger embossed with "E. PLURIBUS. UNIUM" in a ribbon below the eagle.

Good. The barrel, cylinder, frame and hammer have a silver gray patina with scattered light pitting. The cylinder has moderate pitting and retains about half of the Stage Holdup Scene. The percussion nipples are battered but all of the safety pins are intact. The trigger guard and backstrap retain about 10% of the original silver-plated finish; the balance of the brass has a dark patina. The grips have been re-varnished and are in good overall condition. The serial numbers and the markings on the barrel and frame are sharp. The relined case is in fine condition. The bullet mold is in very fine condition and the flask, cap tins and cartridges are in good condition. This is an example of a Model 1849 Pocket Revolver with round barrel and period accessories.
