This is a beautiful example of a deluxe engraved 1849 Pocket Revolver as manufactured in 1854 with the scarce 5 inch barrel length. Although not specifically signed by Young himself the engraving pattern on this revolver is attributed to Gustave Young or someone in his shop with several examples of this style of engraving being shown and listed in the book on "Colt Engraving" as being sold during this early 1850-1865 timeframe. This revolver features deluxe scroll and floral engraving on the rear section of the barrel, the frame and recoil shield and hinge area of the loading lever. With the traditional young style "Wolf's Head" engraved hammer sides. The top of the silver plated back strap has an engraved geometric shell design with a light engraved pattern on the lower bottom front edge, while the silver plated trigger guard also has some light geometric engraving on the very front edge of the serial number and on the bottom of the trigger guard bow. The barrel address is in a panel on the top flat and reads "-{ADDRESS SAML COLT/ NEW YORK CITY}-". The left side of the frame has the standard factory rolled markings of the "COLTS / PATENT" and the cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. The barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap are all marked with the full serial number, "95137" with the partial serial number "5137" marked on the loading lever. The wedge is unnumbered but has the same exact general wear and age pattern as the rest of the pistol, with all other serial numbers matching. The revolver is fitted with smooth varnished one piece rosewood grips. It is complete with an original style Colt walnut presentation case with five compartments inside that house the revolver itself, a Colt marked combination bullet mold (ball and conical bullet) tin of caps, original powder flask and one compartment for various lead bullets. The inside lining is a dark maroon color with a single brass lock on the front of the case.
