Cased Civil War Era Private Purchase Percussion Rifle, by Beasley & Co., NVSN, .58 cal., 39'' round barrel, military style rear sight, with additional fine tuned target front and rear sights; lightly engraved case hardened frame and hammer, English style coarse checkered walnut stock with horn forend and blued steel lightly adorned buttplate. Also included is an English made bronze bullet mold marked No. 25, which is adapted for hollow based projectiles; Dixon five-position leather-covered bag flask capable of measuring drams from 3-1/2 to 4-1/2; unopened cap tin marked ''Joyce''. Condition to lock and stock are excellent showing only light marks from handling. Barrel shows moderate splotchy toning with a fine bore. Although mfg'd in the late 1860s, our consignor states that in the early 1970s this rifle won the California State Muzzle Championship and was banned from future matches by sore losers protesting its use. Rifle is neatly cased in its original green baize lined partitioned walnut case with flush fitting brass hardware, and is just missing a few simple accessories to flesh out the case. Est.: $3,500-$5,000. (Antique)
