Cased and British Proofed Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol, #C17222, .45 ACP cal., 5'' barrel, blue finish, factory checkered walnut grips. Shipped to J. Laughin Co., Feb. 27, 1915, in 200 gun shipment, with all features verified by factory letter. (It is of note that the correct information for this particular retailer is J. Laughlin, D.P.&Co., London.) Fitted in an oak English case lined in medium blue baize material, with a Fraser & Co., Edinburgh, trade label in lid. Also included is a sealed box of .45 ACP cartridges by U.S. Cartridge Co. in their vivid red and orange box, along with a small nickel oiler, as well as an early fire blue combination tool. Pistol with crown-''V'' proofmarks to left side of frame, and additionally proofed in chamber area of barrel. Condition is fine showing light scuffs and scratches, minor discoloration to frame near serial number, thinning and toning to frontstrap and mainspring housing, with circumferential reassembl!
y scratch that continues into slide area. Grips show light to just moderate flattening with small impression/loss near lower left grip screw. Action is crisp, bore is fine to excellent. Case shows some refinish work to lid and disfigurement to interior latch. Overall a very handsome English proofed early WWI era sidearm. Est.: $3,500-$5,000.
