Carved Pearl Steer Head Grips on a Texas Shipped Pre-War Colt Frontier Six Shooter Revolver with Fac
The included Colt factory letter states that this revolver was shipped from the Colt factory to Wolf & Klar in Fort Worth, Texas on October 4, 1926. The letter confirms the serial number, caliber, and barrel length with the finish as "blue" and the stocks as "Rubber". The revolver has a commercial blue barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and backstrap, with casehardened frame, hammer and loading gate. The revolver is fitted with two-piece pearl grips. The right grip has a pearl relief-carved steer head with ruby eyes. The carved steer head is a typical feature of Wolf & Klar fitted grips. The top of the barrel has the one line "Hartford" address ("COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO HARTFORD"). The model designation ("COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER 44-40") is roll stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt three date/two line patent markings (PAT SEPT. 19, 1871. / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75") followed by the uncircled Rampant Colt trademark. A "3" assembler's number and the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark are stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The loading gate and internal back of frame is stamped with the assembly number "1064". The serial number ("349359") is stamped on the bottom of the frame and the right side of the trigger guard and backstrap underneath the grips. The partial serial number "59" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. All of the serial numbers match.

Fine as factory refinished. The barrel, cylinder, ejector shroud, trigger guard and backstrap retain approximately 80% of the blue finish with holster wear on the edges of the barrel and ejector housing and turn marks on the cylinder. The case colors on the frame have faded to a dove-gray with traces of silver. The screw heads all show slight screwdriver wear. The barrel and frame markings are crisp. The stocks are in very fine condition with some minor age discoloration and a small chip in the heel of the right stock. The action is crisp but the hammer does not hold at half-cock.
