Carved American powderhorn circa mid 19th century measuring approx. 16-1/4” from tip to plug. Leather cover over wood plus in base, with large enameled iron tacks and genuine to the period leather strap affixed by small eyelet type hangars with leather plug in spout. The horn is well carved with figures of animals, particularly several large American buffalo, antelope, deer, bear, wolves, mountain lions, bobcats, armadillo, javelina, skunk, prairie dogs, snake, and other beasts, all nicely detailed in a whimsical manner. There has been a small plaque removed from the base and the outline shows in the leather. The horn shows an attractive patina and is definitely genuine to the period of about 1830-1870 in our opinion. Provenance: Chris Anderson, Ft. Carson antiques, 1970’s. Est: $2,500- $5,000
