This is a very rare CDV Photograph of a seated Gen. David Hunter in uniform, on gilt-ruled card; backstamp by Anthony. Clipped top corners. A desirable CDV of this Union General, famed for Emancipating Slaves during the Civil War and his roll as Head of the Abraham Lincoln Assassination trials.
David Hunter (1802-1886) was a Union general who achieved fame by his unauthorized 1862 order (immediately rescinded) emancipating slaves in three Southern states and as the president of the military commission trying the conspirators involved with the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
