<B>Carte de Visite - Col. Edwin Perrin with a Group of Southern Plains Warriors</B></I><BR>Circa 1865<BR>Length 2 3/8 in. Width 4 3/4 in.<BR><BR>This interesting image shows eleven warriors posed with Edwin Perrin. Three of the warriors are on horseback, one is holding a rifle and the other appears to be holding a lance. Three shields are visible, a bow case and quiver, a set of hair plates, Saltillo serape, and a Navajo chief's blanket. Col. Edwin Perrin was sent by Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's Secretary of War, to New Mexico in 1862 to help organize and train local volunteers under Kit Carson against the confederate forces that occupied New Mexico.
