This carte de visite is a portrait of General George Armstrong Custer, circa 1865 (see image). It measures 2 3/8"x4". The back is printed with the John Goldin & Co. address and hand marked "Gen Geo A. Custer / 7th Cav". The General was celebrated for gallant services at Gettysburg, Yellow Tavern, Winchester, Fishers Hill and Five Forks, but is most famous for his command of the 7th Cavalry in action with Sioux Indians at Little Big Horn, which led to a his own death and command massacred.

Very fine. The image is clear with a few mild spots, with the remnants of adhesive tape on the back (two spots at the top). Comes in a protective plastic sleeve.
