Carson & Colorado Railroad was incorporated 10 May 1880 and purchased by the Carson & Colorado Railway on 2 Aug 1892 [Ref: Poor’s Manual of Railroads, 1899, p. 722]. The C&C Railway was later sold to the Southern Pacific Company in 1900 by the parent company, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad [Ref: Wikipedia]. Lot includes: 1) Heart shaped riveted padlock, shackle front stamped “C&C RR” and rear stamped “LUX 6” with either a 6 or 9 on the drop. Spring-loaded drop and intact fob on lower body. The swing-away shackle, which was patented in 1877 by Yale and Towne, integrated mechanism, and riveted shell also date to the late 1870s. No information on the rear stamp is available. This lock appears to have been filed and re-punched on the shackle, and does not seem consistent with other known C&CRR locks, which were made by the Union Brass Co. 2) An 1884 Woodworth Mill Co. Receipt for $8.82, an 1889 voucher for ticket sales, an 1893 record of Freight Bills, and two vouchers: numbers 128 and 161. - Jacobitz Collection -59539
