Davis notes that banking in Nevada was never profitable, because "a borrower might be rich the day that he borrowed the money and bankrupt within 30 days thereafter" [Ref: Davis, Sam, History of Nevada, pp. 132-3]. Residents and visitors often referred to Carson City simply as Carson. Some of the earlier bank checks listed here have "City" omitted while the later period checks use it. The conditions of these checks vary from good (clean, but bearing small tears and fold creasing) to excellent (very clean, crisp, and undamaged). -61290
