Carrier-Belleuse, Albert-Ernest 1824 1887
French sculptor and designer.

He was one of the most prolific and versatile sculptors of the 19th century, producing portrait busts, monuments and ideal works.

His style ranged from the unembellished Realism of his male portraits to the neo-Baroque exuberance of his architectural decoration, and his art is particularly associated with the amiable opulence of the Second Empire.

He signed his works A. Carrier until c. 1868, thereafter adopting the name Carrier-Belleuse.

He even made designs around 1879-1886 for French Bebe bisque head dolls for the Maison Jumeau company in Paris, France.

This is a Bronze made by Carrier at the French Foundry "Deniere" of John Milton (1608-74) Major British poet, most famous for the epic Paradise Lost (1667).

Carrier Belleuse is also a good investment, because last July 9th 2002, Sotheby's Auction House in London sold his pieces for the following prices:
Bust of Michelangelo US $18,539
Rembrandt Van Rijn US $15,449
Bust of William Shakespeare US $13,929

before this auction, in December 2000 some of his pieces commanded high prices also at Sothebys London the following prices:

Buste de Murillo US $6,169
Molière Seated US $6,516

that means this pieces doubled worth in two years... not bad!

This gorgeous bronze piece measures approximately 26 inches high and is circa 1860.
