American actress (1908–1942) who enjoyed great success as a popular screen comedienne in the 1930s, and who became Mrs. Clark Gable in 1939. On January 16, 1942, the plane in which Lombard was traveling en route to a war bond rally crashed into Mount Potosi near Las Vegas, killing all 22 aboard. Vintage matte-finish 10.5 x 13.5 photo, signed in fountain pen, “Most cordially, Carole Lombard.” Matted to an overall size of 16 x 20. Some mild rippling, a few light stains and surface dings, and a bit of light silvering to a couple darker portions of image, otherwise fine condition. An appealing uninscribed example from one of Hollywood’s most legendary Golden Era stars!
