<B>Carol Lombard “Old Gold” Full Color Advertising Sign,</B></I> 31” x 42”, 1934, easel-backed. This is a lovely sign featuring a sultry Carol Lombard with a cigarette in her right hand. In the lower left, the sign has “Carol Lombard in ‘Now and Forever’ her latest Paramount picture”. <BR><BR>Carole Lombard (1908-1942), born Jane Alice Peters in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was an Oscar-nominated American actress, particularly noted for her comedic roles in several classic films of the 1930s. <BR><BR>When the United States entered World War II at the end of 1941, Lombard traveled to her home state of Indiana for a war bond rally. On the morning of Friday, January 16, 1942, Lombard and her mother boarded a Trans World Airlines DC-3 airplane to return to California. The plane crashed into "Double Up Peak" 32 miles southwest of Las Vegas. Lombard and the other 43 passengers were killed. <BR>After her death at the age of thirty-three, Lombard’s husband, Clark Gable, was inconsolable and devastated by his loss.
