German-born Union general (1829–1906) who served as secretary of the interior under President Rutherford B. Hayes. DS, signed “C. Schurz,” one page, 7.5 x 10, May 5, 1877. Department of the Interior Pension Bureau certificate for a veteran. In part: “It is herby certified that in conformity with the laws of the United States, Daniel Floyd, who was a private of Co. A of the…Maine Vol’s is inscribed on the Pension List Roll of the Portland Agency…at the rate of Four dollars per month.” In very good condition, with moderate staining along the right side from past exposure to moisture affecting portions of the text, old tape remnants along the left edge reverse, and a trimmed left edge. The signature remains unaffected.
