"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Letter signed “Carl Linnaeus” in Old Swedish as Rector of Uppsala University, datelined Uppsala, 24 Martii [April 4] 1750. Linnaeus' letter appears on upper half of the first page of a 3pp. letter signed “JH Engelhard'' measuring 8” x 12.25”. Untranslated letter is to Carl Klingenberg, Secretary of Uppsala University, and possibly concerns a letter of recommendation as Linnaeus mentions the name “Elizabeth Lindblad” three times and refers to “Hedwig Falk Stockholm.'' In 1753, Linnaeus published his “Species Plantarum” in which he established his precise two-word system for naming plants, allowing him to describe 6,000 species of plants by assigning each plant a genus name and a species name. This two-volume work is the basis of modern plant taxonomy. Letter on laid watermarked paper. Light wear, otherwise near fine.
