This bronze sculpture of an indian on horseback is 23" tall, the indian is wearing a full feather headdress and his horse is standing on a stone base, also bronze and the entire figure is mounted on a green marble base. In the original sculpture the horse stood on a stone base. Probably made in the 1980's it is a reproduction of a famous artists work. Born in Austria in 1865 Carl Kuba was the pupil of Carl Waschmann and Stefan Schwartz in Austria. He traveled widely in the American West, sketching and modeling, about 1895. He returned to Vienna where his Western bronzes were cast for the American market between 1895 and 1912. Small and medium bronzes were sometimes polychromed at the foundry. It is said that there were two Kubas, father and son, and that the son modeled the small polychromed bronzes. He died in 1922.
