Carl-Henning Pedersen (1913-2007)
Carl-Henning Pedersen was born in Copenhagen. In 1933, he met the self-taught painter Else Alfelt at international adult education center in Elsinore, whom he married later and who also inspired him to paint. In 1936, he exhibited four of his works for the first time. Pedersen’s work was influenced by Picasso and Matisse, but especially by works by Marc Chagall. Together with his wife and other artists Pedersen founded the artists' group CoBrA in 1948. In 1961 a retrospective took place in the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh and in 1962 Pedersen represented Denmark at the Biennale in Venice. (fea)
