Carl Barks - Gyro Gearloose "Motorized Unicycle" Painting Original Art (undated) On Carl Barks' whirlwind tour of Europe during Donald Duck's 60th birthday celebration, the "Good Duck Artist" was chauffeured about in style, in Rolls-Royce and Jaguar limousines. After the trip, Carl painted an example of the much more economical transportation he would have preferred -- namely Gyro Gearloose's motorized unicycle! Gyro and his helper cruise by Uncle Scrooge's three cubic acre money bin and past the towering statue of Duckburg's founder, Cornelius Coot. This watercolor on paper painting is one of only two watercolors with a transportation theme that Barks did before he became re-immersed in creating oil paintings for the print market. These watercolors were open to Barks' imagination without limitation and he remarked upon how much he enjoyed working on this quirky character of his own creation (Gyro was Barks' alter-ego in some regards). The two-tone paint job and simple squeeze-horn harken on Gyro's unicycle back to the '50s era -- a time when Carl Barks' Disney titles had a readership of three million! Forget the Segway, this is the ride we need! This lively watercolor measures 9" x 11.5", is signed at the lower right, and is in Excellent condition. Get your motor running with this superb Carl Barks painting!
